Last year I had a goal to visit a new DC rooftop bar once a month.  I did not meet my goal.  But I have been to enough of them over the years that I can provide a good list of recommendations.

Watergate – The Watergate rooftop has an awesome view of DC and Georgetown.  However, it is expensive and can get rather windy. You will need a reservation.

Kennedy Center – The Kennedy Center is right across the street from the Watergate.  I wouldn’t call it a bar, but they have a café.  While it is definitely overpriced, it is nowhere near the prices of the Watergate and has the same view.

VUE – VUE (formally POV) is at the top of Hotel Washington near the White House.  It offers amazing views of the White House and Washington Monument.  It has a dress code and can get super busy on weekends.

Upstairs at the Morrow – Upstairs at the Morrow does not have a great view.  But they do have both indoor and outdoor seating, an attentive staff and some of the best French Fries I’ve had on this side of the Atlantic Ocean.

12 Stories – 12 Stories is in SW DC on the Warf.  They have a great view of Jefferson Memorial, tidal basin, airport, and harbor.  It was expensive and the food was not noteworthy but it did have a great view.

The Hive – The Hive is more of a neighborhood spot with a convenient location to metro and Lincoln memorial.  It has an eclectic group of patrons between the State Department, nearby University and tourists.  It has a fun vibe with small expensive drinks.

Ristorante Piccolo – This Italian restaurant in Georgetown has a small balcony that overlooks the busy street below.
