Meals I Still Dream About – Part III

Scroll down to content

It’s been a while since I’ve written a “Meals I Still Dream About” post.  If interested, you can go back to read Part I and Part II.  We all have meals we dream about.  These are meals that have become legends …. I might say, do you remember that Ravioli in South Africa, or I might say, that was gingerbread was good, but not as good as Grasmere in the UK.   Those are meals I dream about….

Grasmere Gingerbread, Lake District England.  It is now more than a decade since I’ve had it but I now have two good friends that live in the UK and I’m trying to figure out how I can use that to my advantage to get some fresh.  While they do ship internationally (and I did that a couple of times the last time I lived on the East Coast of the U.S.), it is expensive and takes two days meaning it is not as fresh when it arrives.  In case I haven’t been clear, this is by far and away the best Gingerbread you will ever have.

Stax Burgers, Hagåtña Guam.   As I’ve mentioned, I am mostly vegetarian.  And when I am paying attention, mostly Whole Foods Plant Based.  But I was craving some meat and out with girlfriends who wanted to go to Stax.  I broke down and tried their Chipotle burger.  The minute I took a bite, I vowed I would probably cheat and eat a burger once a month while living in in Guam.  It was that good.  It would easily rank in the top 5 I’ve ever had.  And being just a few miles from my front door and somewhere I pass every weekend, it is just too amazing to resist.  And now that I am thousands of miles from Guam, I am convinced it is the best in the world.  Stax Smash Burgers

Spago, Marina Bay Sands Hotel, Singapore.  This is less about the food and more a summary of the entire experience.  But the combination of a grilled cheese sandwich and Champagne on the rooftop bar on top of the Marina Bay Sands hotel has got to be one of my favorite meals!

Hot Chocolate, Café San Juan, San Juan la Laguna, Guatemala.  I love Hot Chocolate.  And even in the summer, I drink it least once a week. Their website focuses on their coffee, which I am sure is just as amazing, but I look forward to when I can go back for another cup of Hot Chocolate (or two).  CAFÉ SAN JUAN (cafesanjuangt.com)

Ravioli, Osteria Tarantino, Cape Town, South Africa.   This was a super cute family-owned restaurant with a nice staff and friendly vibe.  So even if the food was only great, I would probably return. However, the Ravioli was phenomenal.  A friend and I actually split a second order at lunch.  I don’t think I have ever done that before in my life.  It was that good.   Osteria Tarantino – Restaurant in Cape Town – EatOut

I’ve had lots of great meals all over the world.  But these are some of those that have become legends and memories.  These are spots that when I return to these cities, I will make this my first meal in order to have time to return at least a second time in the same trip.  What are some of the meals that you still dream about?

P.S. the photo is a runner up selection, Eatstanbul, also in Cape Town.
