I just returned from a two week adventure in Laos, Cambodia and Vietnam with friends. It was a fast trip and we saw (and learned) a lot. I will break down each destination in the coming weeks and months, but in the meantime, here is a look at what the trip looked like overall.
Day 1: Travel Day, arrive Vientiane Laos
Day 2: Vientiane, Laos
Day 3: Luang Prabang, Laos — Note: This entire town, but especially Wat Xieng Thong and Tat Kuang Si waterfalls, made the short list of favorites.
Day 4: Luang Prabang Laos
Day 5: Hanoi, Vietnam
Day 6: Ha Long Bay cruise, Vietnam — Beautiful and another favorite from the trip. We did not regret spending 3 full days and two nights here!
Day 7: Ha Long Bay cruise, Vietnam
Day 8: Ha Long Bay & Hanoi, Vietnam
Day 9: Hue, Vietnam
Day 10: Da Nang, Vietnam
Day 11: Hoi An, Vietnam
Day 12: Ho Chi Minh City (aka Saigon),Vietnam — I could have spent another day or two here!
Day 13: Phnom Penh, Cambodia
Day 14: Siem Reap, Cambodia — Angkor Wat did not disappoint. And while one day was enough, I would have enjoyed a second day to see some of the less visited temples.
Day 15: Siem Reap, Cambodia (red eye flight home)
I picked these three countries because of their historic, cultural and geographic ties and connections. It helps give me a better sense of history and culture when I can compare and contrast.
More to come on what we did, what we liked, what we didn’t get to do (next trip), what we wish we had done differently, and what we learned!

We’ve just returned from Hanoi, Phnom Penh, and Bangkok. More pictures to come. But I love your itinerary. We, too, loved Halong Bay!
