I love to read.  And especially when traveling, I enjoy reading a book that takes place in that location.  It can be fiction or non-fiction.  Here are some of my top picks for traveling around Europe!  All of these are so good, I recommend them for armchair travels as well!

Balkans – The Balkans:  A Short History by Mark Mazower.  As a side note, I only have 14 books on my shelf – this is one of them.

Bosnia – The Cellist of Sarajevo by Steven Galloway

Bulgaria – The Shadow Land by Elizabeth Kostova

Croatia – Girl at War by Sara Novic

Europe – The Historian by Elizabeth Kostova.  This is one of my all-time favorite books.

Iceland – Journey to the Center of the Earth by Jules Verne

Italy – The Girl from Venice by Martin Cruz Smith

Romania – Dracula by Bram Strokes

Russia – The Bear and the Nightingale by Katherine Arden

Russia – A Gentleman in Moscow by Amor Towles

Russia – The Madonna’s of Leningrad by Debra Dean

Spain – Shadow of the Wind by Carlos Zafron Ruiz
