I recently returned to Singapore for the 3rd time. While there was 25 years between my first and second trip, there was only four years since my last visit. My last trip concentrated on some of the cities highlights. To learn more, check out my last post here. This trip I revisited a few of my favorite spots like the Merlion but I also was able to visit a few new locations.

I was able to explore two new museums this trip. While very different, I highly recommend both the Peranakan Museum and the Asian Civilizations Musuem. I had never head of Peranakan until this recent trip. Peranakan is a unique ethnic group defined by the first wave of immigrants to Singapore that married with the local Malay. While I have found differing definitions, according to the Peranakan Museum, those ancestors can be Chinese, Indian, or even European (other definitions say they have to be of Chinese decent). The museum does a great job of explaining this unique history and how it has evolved to this day. The Asian Civilizations Musuem is huge and overwhelming. It covers the history, religion, culture, and many other aspects for ALL OF ASIA. But it is organized by topic, not by country so it is an interesting compare and contrast that I have not seen elsewhere.

I returned to the Gardens of the Bay.Ā  On my last trip I only visited one of the dome gardens. I highly recommend visiting both! I was mesmerized. Go early in the morning when it is less likely to be crowded and then return for the free light show. On my next trip to Singapore, I will definitely return!

No trip to Singapore is complete without a trip to China Town and a Hawker’s stand.

I know it is cheesy and touristy, but I returned to the Raffles hotel for a Singapore Sling at the Long Bar. This is another stop that I will make again and again.

I love Singapore’s street art and this trip I found some new murals I had not seen before.

Other notes:

Getting around is easy.Ā  Not only is Singapore a pretty walkable city, but the train goes everywhere and both Grab and taxis are easy to catch and very affordable.Ā  Ā For the train and the bus, you no longer need to buy a pass and you can just use your credit card. It was very convenient and I’m not sure why the whole world doesn’t do this!

If looking to eat with locals, jump in a Grab and head out to Dempsey Hill. While there, make sure to try Singapore’s signature dish, Chili Crab!
