Spring time in Japan is beautiful. It begins in March with a preamble of the blooming of the Plum trees. The main event is early April with the Sakura (Cherry Blossoms).
This Spring I had the pleasure to attend 3 Hamuri (Spring festivals to celebrate and view the Cherry Blossoms).
While the Cherry Blossoms are only out for about two weeks in early April, the Hamuri will take place throughout the country with or without the Blossoms and should not be missed.
Some of the best places to view the Cherry Blossoms in Tokyo are listed below:
Ueno Cherry Blossom Festival is the most well known and one of the most beautiful locations to view the blossoms.
Amazake Alley Cherry Blossom Festival
Amazake Yokocho
Bokutei Cherry Blossom Festival
Shinjuku Gyoen Garden is the location of the samurai residence of the Naito family.
Jindai Botanical Garden Camellia and Cherry Blossom Festival
Cherry Blossom viewing at the Tokyo National Museum
Sumida River Cherry Festival
Rikugi-En Garden
However, you will see them almost everywhere and each small town will have their own Hamuri.
