If you are a fan of traditional cakes and pies, Japanese desserts may not be for you. However, if you love creative candy, then this is the place! Not only do the Japanese love candy but they take it to a whole new level. Here are some of my favorites.
Kit-Kats: Kit-Kats are a thing in Japan like you would not believe. There is even a museum dedicated to the candy in Tokyo! They come in dozens of flavors! Here are those I have seen thus far: sweet potato, tea, cheese cake, grape, dark chocolate, cherry blossom tea, cherry blossom sake, melon, strawberry, orange, apple and wasabi – just to name a few. I have also learned that limited editions are sometimes released for holidays and that some flavors are only sold in particular regions and not all over the country.
Hi-Chews: These come in assorted fruit flavors and can be a hard candy or chewy like a starburst (but better). If not in Japan and you want to try these you can also find them on Amazon (they are that popular).
Super Lemons: These were my favorite as a kid and one of the first things I searched out when returning to live here again. The lemon are similar to a Warhead but they also come in soda flavor (tastes more like cotton candy) and cola.
